  The following are a description of downloadable files on the National Data Survey :-

ERRATA FOR DOWNLOADED CROSSTAB SOFTWARE AND SURVEY DATA
This is to notify that small internal errors were found in the Household Survey Data (Section 1) and the database linked to the Crosstabular Analytical Software V1.0 (Section 5). The problem has been detected in those fields which contain "Rupee Value". Some of these fields contain the value"99999998" which should actually be "NULL".
If anyone has downloaded the software and the survey data(txt file) before 28th April 2005 then please follow either of the following processes to rectify the above mentioned problem.
  • Process 1: Please filter the value "99999998" (eg: Q7.5D<>99999998) before executing any query or statistical calculations.
  • Process 2: User can download the "Rectifier.exe" program which will correct the problem automatically. Please follow the readme.txt for further instructions on using the rectification program.
  • Process 3: User can uninstall the previous program/data and freshly download the new Crosstab program/Survey Data from the links below and follow the same installation process.

      1. Household Survey Data (including Household Members Data)  
      This file contains the raw data of the National Survey on Pension Reforms. The file is in zip format. Please download the file and unzip it in your local hard disk. The file specifications are as follow:-
  • File Type - ASCII (text)
  • Row Delimiters - [CR][LF] New Line Character
  • Column Delimeters - | (Pipe)
  • Text Qualifier- NONE
  • Missing Data has been encoded as no string e.g. "|| denotes no value"
  • The first row has Column Headings (Variable Names). A description of the variable names can be downloaded from the Household survey Codes listed below.

      2. Household Survey Form  
      This contains the questionnaire that was used for the National survey. The file format is in pdf and you can download and view the file using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

      3. Household Survey Codes  
      This file conatins the documentation explaining all the codes used for all the fields in the questionnaire. The file is in ".xls" format and you can download and view the file using Microsoft Excel.

      4. Post Survey Coding Manual  
      This section contains four documents listed below. All files are in ".doc" and you can download and view the files using Microsoft Word.

  • Respondent Weights (resp_weights.doc)
    This contains the logic behind the weighting procedure used on the individual respondent's data and a matrix describing the weights.

  • Region Codes (region_codes.doc)
    This file contains the regionalization plan indicating which states have been considered under North, East, North-East, West and South. This is an additional code over and above the state codes to facilitate researchers to analyze the data on a regional perspective.

    This file contains a derived occupational code based on employment status of the individual respondents.

    This file contains the coding plan used for five types of banks operating in India where the respondents have their account.

      5. Crosstabular Analytical Software V1.0 to view Survey Data  
      Crosstab provides an user-friendly cross-tabular analysis software for WIINDOWS-based operating systems. Crosstab allows the user to select any question from the Survey Questionnaire and cross its values with another question. The software generates a frequency table matching the values of Question 1 and Question 2. In addition the user can set conditions/ranges to the selected questions. Users also have the freedom to add external filters by selecting a filter value from a different question from the questionnaire.

    Please download the crosstab.zip file and unzip all its contents into a folder in your local machine. The folder will contain the following files
  • crosstab.cab
  • setup.exe
  • setup.lst
    Double click on setup.exe to install the program in your machine. Please refer to the Installation Guidelines for detailed instructions.

      6. Household Survey Methodology (Sampling Note)  
      This document is a paper titled sampling note which highlights the rationale behind the sampling framework used for the survey, details of the sampling methodology and the final sample distribution. The file format is in pdf and you can download and view the file using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
